About John Leigh Park
John Leigh Park is a beautiful park to visit all year round, much loved and actively used by people of all ages who enjoy its slopes, trees, plants, bird-life and small animals. People of Altrincham use the park for an array of reasons, from sitting and relaxing through to various sports and activities including football, tennis, basketball, bowls and much much more!
There are two excellent playgrounds one for infants which includes an aviary which houses cockatiels, zebra finches and budgerigars and a second larger play area for older children which was designed to reflect the surroundings and based upon the river Bollin.
Where is John Leigh Park?
John Leigh Park is In Altrincham, from the A56 opposite the George and Dragon turn onto Oldfield Road. Continue for 200 metres and the park is to your left with plenty of street parking available free.
Play Grounds
There are two play areas on John Leigh Park. One play area for infants contains a climbing frame, slide, see-saw, roundabout, swings, animals on springs as well as fun things to experiment with such as curved mirrors and a hand whistle. Inside this play area there is also an aviary in which there are cockatiels, zebra finches and budgerigars who all appreciate visitors!
The second playground on John Leigh Park is designed around the concept of a river and is set in a nice woodland area very inkeeping with the park itself, there’s a rope bridge, climbing nets, large slide a very cool basket swing which adults are regulars on! and lots more to play with.
The play area is predominantly timber in order to complement the park’s character, and includes a new footpath which represents a river ‘flowing’ through the space and improves accessibility, while other landscape features such as mounds, shrubs and boulders have been added to emphasise the river valley concept and promote natural play.
There are 3 popular, new tarmac tennis courts on John Leigh Park in Altrincham which were completed in 2013 and remain in excellent condition. They are free to use and are enclosed in groups of 2 with one court sharing the enclosure with the football/basketball court.
