THE FRANK SIDEBOTTOM STATUE IN Timperley Village gives fans a chance to remember and honour the madcap comedian who was actually born and lived in Timperley. Sidebottom was the alter ego of comedian Chris Sievey. The character exploded in popularity during the 1990s when the Fantastic Shed Show made its debut featuring Sidebottom as its main character.

The character was such an iconic symbol for Timperley that two films have explored his and Sievey’s legacy. The first was “Frank”, a fictional narrative released in 2014, directed by Lenny Abrahamson and starring Michael Fassbender as Sidebottom. “Being Frank”, a 2018 documentary focused more on Sievey as a comedian, and was directed by Steve Sullivan. Both honor the memory of Chris Sievey himself, who passed away in 2010.

The statue is also posthumous as it was unveiled in 2013. It is the work of Colin Spofforth. During the Christmas season, the people of Timperley dress the statue in Santa outfits, which  often looks so comical I love driving through the village and seeing Sidebottom with his beard and santa hat it makes me laugh every time I pass through over the christmas period.

Know Before You Go

The statue is located in Timperley Village on Timperley’s main road, there is also a small amount of parking nearby. The are always people stopping by and taking photos with the statue but be careful if you have little children with you because the Timperley Village intersection can be quite busy with lots of passing cars on the main roads and also in the laybys where you can park for access to the shops and coffee shops. The Quarry Bank pub is a 2 minute walk from the statue and is located at 151 Bloomsbury Ln, Timperley, Altrincham WA15 6NY. I used to live in Timperley Village just behind Timperley Aquatics in Quarrybank Mews so this placed used to be my very convenient local, great food, great staff and the beer garden out back is an absolute sun trap, also featuring a bowls field which I used to enjoy watching on the weekends with a drink or 2 in the sun.

The team at Altrincham Glazing Co often work in Timperley Village if you see us in the area please feel free to say hello.
